The New Enlightenment

Braemar Summit 2021

The first Braemar Summit was held in 2021, as we witnessed the central role of science in the response to the pandemic. Our inaugural theme, ‘The New Enlightenment,’ featured speakers including Dame Sarah Gilbert of the Oxford vaccine team, Nobel Prize winners Sir Venki Ramakrishnan and Sir Paul Nurse who spoke on life and death, and the Astronomer Royal Lord Rees in conversation with Hannah Fry about understanding the universe.


The Future and Exploration

Braemar Summit 2022

In 2022, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Shackleton's expeditions with a theme focused on ‘The Future and Exploration’. Highlights included talks by Patrick Bergel, a Shackleton descendant, Sir Roger Penrose and Michael Colglazier (CEO of Virgin Galactic) as well as Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell. The event featured a keynote from former Prime Minister David Cameron and a discussion on geopolitics with Lord Robertson, Jeremy Hunt, and historian Sir Antony Beevor.


The Great Acceleration

Braemar Summit 2023

In 2023, The Braemar Summit took the theme ‘The Great Acceleration’, with a focus on AI, supercomputers and data, climate change and biodiversity, and economic acceleration. Speakers included Lord Stern, David Lammy, Professor Marcus du Sautoy, Professor Irene Tracey, Ilan Gur, and Dame Athene Donald.
